You haven't lived until you've been served a $2 drink by a miserable old woman who sounds like she's been smoking chimney stacks for the last 53 years with someone <strike>dead</strike> passed out next to you at the<a href="http://kingeddysaloon.com/"> Kings Eddy Saloon</a>. Downtown Los Angeles is the epi-center of black men in wheelchairs asking you for cigs (cigs are like currency over there) and the atmosphere feels like something is about to go down. It's weird seeing a middle aged white woman who didn't meet a plastic surgery she didn't like walk her 3 chows passed a rotting black man peeing on himself. $5 haircuts (L.A. Barber College), going to the Hotel the Black Dahlia was seen at (The Biltmore), it's all here.<br /><br />I've noticed this ugly trend in gay mags, blogs, of gay men who write down their back and forth banter like it's so entertaining to hear two fags hash out what they thought about the latest movie they've just seen. This guy goes into the stall next to me and the next thing I see is him getting on one knee, one hand on the floor, nice ring on his finger, and what sounded like he was spitting up wine like he was in a wine tasting. I realized the guy is throwing up. He washes his face off, goes back to his table of hot friends, no one the wiser.<br /><br />Now when <span style="font-size: large;">I</span> throw up it sounds like I'm heaving up my spleen, blood vessels popping, colors leaving my face like I'm dead, and strangers are asking me if I need soda water they have in their car. One time I threw up outside of a Barnes and Noble after having too many Bloody Mary's at a "Camacho's" Mexican restaurant and stopped traffic. I do the "scare birds out of trees" style of throwing up and not the quiet spilling up of my vodka tonics like I was spitting out too much mouthwash. I happen to be with a partner who never throws up, Russ has a liver that could sop up a puddle of 90 proof peppermint snaps while never leaving a lull in the conversation. I one time did a "cater waiter" gig to get some extra money for a tennis club's Halloween shindig. My costume was a football player and my job was to pass around champagne flutes. The bartender was a friend so she was plying me with free drinks all night. That was one night I <strong>wished</strong> I would have thrown up my guts. I was TOLD (because I have no memory of it) that throughout the night I kept on sticking cocktail napkins in my jock strap so by the end of the night it looked like my dick was the size of a boxing glove and I kept on wondering into the bushes to polish off champagne flutes and hors d'oeuvres meant for the party. One day I'll stop drinking, and the throwing up will only be be because of bad calamari and not because I downed one too many, till then? Donna has been making these things for the last few days and to her it's like she discovered a new planet when she found out about these. My sister makes food from the back of baking boxes and she always gets the proportions wrong. She'll make a rum cake that will give you a buzz and a 7 layer tostada dip (she only makes it 3 layers because she says the other 4 layers are too much of a hassle for her) with 2 of the layers ground beef. She loves ground beef and tries to stick it into everything like I do with mayo (did you know mayonnaise makes everything creamy and delicious from shrimp scampi to chili?). It was more like a spookfest. We went to see the <a href="http://www.ghosttheory.com/2008/04/15/alexandria-hotel-haunted-los-angeles">Alexandria Hotel</a> and stayed at the skeezy Cecil Hotel that's called "The Suicide" by the old coots who have lived there forever because of all the people jumping out of windows."The Cecil" also has the distinction of housing not one, but 2 serial killers. one of them was Richard Ramirez and from our room on the 14th floor (where he lived), you overlooked the alley that Ramirez would Shanghai his victims in (they say you feel a sense of dread if you go into the alley at night, even from our window the alley looked foreboding with the orangeish street lights and the creepy building in front of it). I'm looking for that special someone to free me of my desperate loneliness, the festering dragging sick loneliness. I sit in a little chair and stare out at the gloom that surrounds me, the festering dragging sick gloom. Now that Teriyaki (I call God Teriyaki because otherwise I won't remember his name) has blessed me by bringing you into my life, I'm just beside myself (literally, I have a large mirror beside me) and now my murmuring to myself will stop. Can I be so bold as to ask you to come live with me? I haven't vacuumed in two years (the vacuum understands why, trust me) and I know you will vacuum for me, constantly, and in time you'll adjust to my little quirks (I think I have too many fingers) and make me happy, between vacuumings.

<br />I hope you will take me up on my offer, did I say I lived in a hospice? I'm allotted $45 a month and we can split this, though I expect you to spend some of that money on vacuum cleaner upkeep (vacuum bags aren't going to buy themselves) and the rest you can spend on yourself.

What happened is I turned turncoat by turning on the regulars because I'm no respecter of persons. In the isle is a girl and me. An old man comes up and just stands there, I'm thinking he's an old letch wanting to pick up on the young Chickie and I go back to trying to figure out what candles are less Catholic looking and more glow giving. After about 5 minutes he pipes up to the girl saying; "Do you know why I was standing here? It's because I was a former L.A. Cop and I noticed you left your bag in your cart and walked away so anyone could take it. That's all I wanted to say." It hits me he was suspicious of ME, like I was about to nab her bag and run out the store with her multiples of 99 cents leaving my soup and balloons behind. I'm furious. It got me thinking, why would he do that?<br /><br />Two things I got from this.<br /><br />One being the elderly should be put in these big cabinets and put away like mothballs and fur hats.<br /><br />The other is because of his age, he must have been a cop in the 1950's, 60's. A time when you where suspicious until proven innocent. Cops where thugs more than they weren't and if you weren't white with a short haircut, you were a bogeyman, a smoke in a sealed room.<br />Los Angeles Cops had a hatred for Latinos and homosexuals that spanned decades. They fed the "Zoot Suit Riots" and their routine hassling of gays prompted the "Black Cat Riot" in Silverlake that pre-dated the "Stonewall Riot" by two years. The harassment was so bad with entrapment and nightly raids of gay bars, Los Angeles gays where the first in the country to take the Police to court and win (LAPD Chief of Detectives Thad F. Brown admitted the existence of a special "Homosexual Squad" to harass gays in 1951). I didn't know this until my sister out of the blue said I always was a loud eater, since I was a little boy. It's my chewing, it's not like I'm sucking out the end of spring rolls or slurping on country gravy. I think both of then have a sensory processing disorder and that both need to go to a hypnotherapist for their misophonia before they shoot me in the face (on an on-line forum I looked up there are others like them that say that loud chewing bothers them so much they want to "shoot people in the face" and how each chomp "sounds like a shotgun blast"). I also found on-line comments like this; "I'll sit for however long it takes my mother to eat a mint in her with my fingers in my ears," or "My first memory of this issue was when I was around 9. My grandmother would bite in to almonds at the dinner table and I would jump out of my skin. It was torture. No one else ever seemed to notice but me. Sometimes, instead of eating a meal, my grandmother would just sit down and eat a whole bag of almonds. By the time she would finish I would have a twitch in my right eye that would continue for days." It got us talking about how people always find Russ personable (when he isn't punching people in the cheek) and I come off as standoffish. Some people get it though and I find those people tend to be more wiser than the average moe on the street. Russ says I'm hard to figure out, but once you do, It's like finding $100 you thought you lost while hammered. I turn and see what could have been my brother. He looked like me so much he even did a double take (I've seen these doppelganger types before, once at the PCH pier and at a pub called Timmy Nolan's in Burbank. My Aunt claimed to have seen a Mexican singer on one of her Spanish channels she said could have been my twin, but I have to see it myself). It's not so strange when all cute 5 yr old little Latin boys all look alike that they would still look alike when they hit manhood. While we're looking at each other like; "What now?" This beautiful Armenian girl drops a load of meat in his cart, I'm talking beautiful beautiful, both walk away, and I'm at the meat counter holding ticket number 24 waiting for someone to take my oxtail and olives order wondering what just happened.<br /><br />One thing all these walking echoes have in common is that they bat for the other team, I have the distinction of being the only invert out of the bunch (unless they were all out with their sisters). I'm impressed that if I were straight I could bag these kind of knockout girls. I know that if I were straight I would go for an exotic dark-haired girl because I know myself, but as a gay man though my laser scope has always been on blond/blue All-American types like Russ.<br /><br />My life would be very different if I were straight, no shit I know that, but these flesh and blood personal reminders still make me screech in my tracks. You know I wouldn't be the person I am now. The person who writes on this blog would be non-existant, I would never be, instead in my place would be someone maybe better, someone maybe worse, but whoever it would be, it wouldn't be the person writing these words. I don't envy these men if that's what you're wondering, As far as I know I could be meth head living in Ottawa (moved there for my second wife) with 3 divorces who ends up falling for a transsexuals (she tells me she's a man only after I've fallen in love with her) and my scars would be on the outside instead of the inside, it's just I know I wouldn't have had the struggles and hurts being homosexual, I would have a whole new set of struggles and hurts of being straight, but the difference is the world wouldn't have been against me from the start, it wouldn't squeeze the air out of me every chance it got because I was gay, it wouldn't cut off my opportunities.
