Even in Death

On this blog I've posted how the straight world has done somersaults in trying to hush up, seal behind a wall like it was a dead body, hide under the rug like dust, burn (sometimes literally), gloss over, ignore, and plain out deny aspects of homosexuality found in this world. It's dis-tasteful to them as eating raw fennel. From the Getty museum being adolescent by turning depictions of gay sex on pottery towards walls so no one can see it, to the left out gay references in Anne Frank's diary. Turning gay protagonist in books and movies (never let the truth get in the way of a good story) into straight, to denying the fay sexuality of the movers and shakers in history or just ignoring them completely. It's almost laughable how the straight world stumbles over itself to deny me my place in the sun. I'm now reading "Queer Hauntings, True Tales of Gay and Lesbian Ghosts " by Ken Summers. The author implies he did the book because in the field dealing with ghosts and hauntings there has been the same shitty treatment given to gay spooks. It's a great read with stories like a black figure that haunts the stone bluff above Laural Canyon Blvd. (wrong, it's not Houdini you presumptuous twats, it's the ghost of the rich young man who accidentally pushed his secret gay lover from the top of the stairs to his death during a party). The "Francis Grierson House" in San Diego the "Whaley House" doesn't hold a candle to in either looks or spectres (ironic that the Whaley is considered the most haunted house in the US; "Lets not talk about the Grierson house because we have to talk about all them gays, let's just talk about the Whaley where all the hangings happened"). Who cares about the "Upstairs Lounge" nightclub in Louisiana where a horror happened to gay clubbers that still haunts the corridors with screams and the smell of burnt flesh when the horrors of the LaLaurie House will do just as nicely. Whatever events that are happening that people constitute as spirit hauntings (whether you believe in ghosts or not), the fact is if they have a gay background or gay angle to them, they'll be ignored. Even in death, the gay spirit is shoved and stuffed in a closet, I thank Ken Summers for letting them out.

  2. I just finished a biography of E.M. Forster who grew up in post-Oscar Wide Trial England, in a generation of scared, traumatized gay men. What's interesting is that his education in a "good" secondary school and at Cambridge University makes it obvious the system was a perfect machine for producing large numbers of sexually experienced young gay men and then releasing them into a society just waiting to destroy them if they were ever found out. Bizarre.
